Persian Inspired Boston Ceremony
At the Bostonian Boston Hotel, family and dear friends gathered to celebrate Shabnam & Christian’s nuptials.
An adaptation of a Persian Wedding (aroosi), the ceremony (aghd) included a traditional showering of sweetness on the couple, with the bride’s sister grinding sugar cones together over a canopy.
Other traditional elements of the sofreye aghd included a mirror and candlesticks (ayné va shamdoon), the mirror symbolizing eternity and the candles symbolizing the brightness of the future and passion. In addition, there were flatbreads to symbolize prosperity for the couple, decorated eggs to symbolize fertility, and flowers as a sign of life and beauty.
